Robert Coatsworth

Rob has over 14 years experience in developing and helping to implement profitable growth strategies for his clients. This is combined with more than 15 years of prior experience in commercial lending, venture capital and acquisitions as well as senior financial, marketing and operating management roles in growing companies in a variety of industries.

This broad background and depth of experience represents a valuable perspective for his clients. It enables him to help improve their business processes and organizational effectiveness and to sharpen their value proposition to get to the right markets.

Rob has worked with start-up as well as mature, primarily private sector organizations in financial services, radio and television broadcasting, medical laboratory, book publishing, financial software, light manufacturing, hospitality and retail automotive. His work has included finance and marketing based initiatives to support acquisitions, expansions, new market entry, customer retention and regulatory interface.

In the academic area, Rob has also done work for Queen’s School of Business, Royal Roads University and Rotman School of Management as an MBA student advisor and as a consultant to businesses seeking the universities’ assistance. In these capacities he has mentored MBA students, acted as MBA student Project Advisor, coached CEOs and facilitated conference seminars.

  • Provincial Electricity Sector – Providing ongoing strategic advisory and project management services to electrical utilities centered on: succession management planning; knowledge capture and transfer; and supporting skills development in an industry that has an enormous current and future skills shortage.
  • Financial Software - Developed and managed the North American sales and marketing strategy for a UK owned software developer to reach large, finance industry clients.
  • Retail Automotive Group - Interim group holding company CFO; interim dealership General Manager; facilitated group strategic plan and group used vehicle re-marketing strategy; provided analysis for a General Motors dealer network consolidation initiative.
  • Book Publishing – Interim CFO and assisted CEO with business plan, financial projections and investor presentations. Successfully raised over $200,000 in first round equity from angel investors.
  • Universities – Student Mentor and Advisor; Consultant. Facilitated ‘CEO Roundtables’ at Ontario-sponsored Wisdom Exchange conferences; coached presentations by two technology company CEOs for a venture capital conference, one presentation was voted best of the show.
