Gary specializes in the area of
safety, health environment, and quality services in training,
facilitation, consultation, implementation, and continuous improvement.
He focuses on Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental
Management Systems. He has 20 years experience in Occupational Health
and Safety and Environmental program delivery with experience in most
major sectors (industry, mining, construction, services, etc.). Gary is
a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces with a total of sixteen
years with the Department of National Defence.
Industry Experience
In quality management systems, he has
been involved in the implementation of strategic downsizing of an
organization and in the re-engineering of an organization. He
specializes in the integration of safety, health, environment, and
quality programs. He has assisted clients in the development of their
quality, environment, and health & safety programs through the provision
of training, facilitation and the writing of policies, procedures and
work instructions. Gary has conducted gap analysis for OHSAS 18001 and
assisted in the successful implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and
OHSAS 18001 management systems. He has provided assistance to clients in
the development of environmental management systems and in obtaining
certificate of approvals (e.g. noise, air and waste transfer). Gary has
experience in many areas of business management such as business
measurement, team building, continual improvement (completed the Juran
Continuous Improvement Facilitator’s Course), and re-engineering. He has
consulted with a wide range of clients in all phases of management
system implementation. Gary has also made presentations (speaker on risk
assessment at the Aggregate Producers' Association of Ontario annual
conference; speaker on OHSAS 18001:1999 at the Eastern Ontario Chapter
of the CSSE) and provided training and consulting services to many
companies throughout Canada and the USA on health, safety and
environmental management systems.
Course Qualifications
Gary is qualified to teach the ISO9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001courses
including the Lead Auditor courses. In the field of Health & Safety,
Gary previously taught the IAPA Joint Health & Safety Committee
Certified Member course as well as the Workplace Hazard Specific courses
for the Plastics and Woodworking Industries and the MTCU Surface Miner
Common Core course.
Trade Membership and Certifications
Gary has completed RABQSA Lead Auditor courses in ISO 9001, ISO 14001
and OHSAS 18001. He is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional and a
member of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals and a
Certified Health & Safety Consultant and a member of the Canadian
Society of Safety Engineering. Gary is past Vice-Chair of the Eastern
Ontario Chapter of the CSSE. Gary is a former member of the Canadian
Armed Forces where he worked as a Communication Systems Technician
specializing in aircraft navigation systems.
Education and Training
Gary is a graduate of the Loyalist College of Applied Arts, Belleville,
Ontario in Business Administration.

RELATED TO LEISURE ACTIVITIES

We are fairly well protected from hearing loss in most workplaces
nowadays due to legislation. Workers are provided information on sources
of noise in the workplace and with information on how to protect
themselves from the noise. That information is not often applied to
leisure activities. For some reason we tend to feel that once we leave
the workplace, we are not likely to be exposed to noise levels that can
cause hearing loss or perhaps we just don’t feel the pressure to wear
hearing protection outside of work.
So, how do we know whether that the level of noise is high enough to
cause hearing loss? How do we know we have hearing loss?

MANAGING CHANGE – EXPECT
RESISTANCE

likely realize that significant changes are happening in our economy.
Some companies have closed; some have had to lay off workers; some are
just hanging on; some are re-structuring; some are merging; some are
buying other organizations and some are actually increasing their
business. No matter where your business is at this particular time,
change is happening “big time”.
